My best selection of art supplies

It’s a small place near the Duomo of Florence. You can find special artesanal paint, like their big jars of solid pigment. It is a tradition that Florence keeps until today, to make art just like Renascence.
Via dello Studio 19r – 50100, Firenze

I love this red place. Seams like an old firehouse building on the end of Soho, at the beginning of China Town. Lots of floors with good price. I’ve never been to NYC without passing by. Leave it to the end of the day cause you will leave carrying heavy bags.
308 Canal St, New York, NY 10013

All over Manhattan, it is my recent discover. You can ask for an artist discount card. Good variety and good prices.
Soho – 148 Lafayette Street, New York City, NY 10013

Is it a small store located inside the historical building in Parque Lage. It gives support to all art classes that occurs in EAV – School of Visual Arts. They make canvas in any size you need. Just ask Claudia.
Rua Jardim Botânico, 414, Jardim Botânico, Rio de Janeiro – RJ / Tel (21) 2539-4069

A good store with great attendant support. They have different pens for calligraphy, sometimes it is hard to find that in Rio.
R. Marquês de Itu, 397 / Tel (11) 3224-5485

A big store with great variety of art products.
Rua Major Sertório, 447, Centro / Tel (11) 3258.6711

PARIS in RIO DE JANEIRO – secret project

My cousins went to Paris and left their 9 years old daughter with me for 3 weeks.

So, we created this “Secret Project” – we went to the same places as her parents in Paris, without leaving Rio de Janeiro.

She learned a lot about Paris, and also about Barcelona, their second destination on the trip.

We did’nt tell their parents what we were doing… and we prepared this video for their arrival.

The real places in Rio are:

Panthéon = Biblioteca Nacional
Notre Dame = Igreja Presbiteriana
Palais Garnier = Theatro Municipal
Musée du Louvre and d’Orsay = Museu de Belas Artes
Hôtel National des Invalides = Museu Histórico Nacional
Château du Versailles = Palácio da República
Le Jardin du Monet = Jardim Botânico
Other Gardens = Jardim do Palácio da República

48 paintings in one triptych

Inspired by “The Creation of Adam – Michelangelo”

Produced by: Mary Dutra and Ana Maria P. Barros

From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Firehouse Plaza Art Gallery – NY

Blending the boundaries between public and private spheres, Mary Dutra is interested in experiencing art from inside her daily lived spaces. This collection shows an aesthetic approach that combines painting and photography to express a different way to live and produce art. She decorated her home with lavish colors that ignited the creative process. Then, models, with stripped sunglasses, were placed in strategic areas. Through the objects, each work tells its own story.

Mary Dutra was born in Rio de Janeiro. She has an undergraduate degree in Graphic Design, and graduate certifications and an MBA in business. Nine years ago, she founded her company Mary Dutra Design. She took courses in art history, Renascence painting, open-air painting, nude, portrait and printmaking in Rio, London and especially in Florence. An avid world traveller, Mary has developed her own unique artistic style and technique of design and painting influenced by different cultures.
